THE crowd's favourite, Tengku Sharizal , emerged the winner at the Malaysian edition of The Contender Asia qualifier at the Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam on Saturday.

In the final, the 25-year-old from Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) knocked out his younger opponent Hashim Ramli.

As both fighters stepped up the tempo in the second of the three-round encounter, the three-minute bout ended prematurely when the 20-year-old Hashim failed to recover.

Getting into the rhythm: Sharizal (right) attacking Bernard in the first semi-final bout at the Malaysian edition of The Contender Asia qualifier.

Tengku said he had scrutinised Hashim’s weakness during his opponent’s earlier fight against Khoo Meng Yang (“Red Dragon”).

“I knew that he was feeling uncomfortable with his leg injury. I kept on pressuring him on his weak spot and just struck it right with the constant attack,” he added.

Four Malaysian exponents competed in the Malaysia Super Four Fights endorsed by the World Muay Thai Council (WMC) to have a shot in making a debut in the second season of the reality show.

Bernard “Headhunter” Radin, who won the Malaysia Ultimate Warrior title last year, was the other fighter in the fray.

In the semi-finals, the finalists – Tengku and Hashim – needed an extra fourth round to eliminate their challengers.

Sharizal warded off the threat from Bernard while Hashim showed better endurance to overcome Khoo to set up the final showdown.

“It was my first time going up against Bernard. He is a worthy competitor and he had trained with The Contender Asia first season winner (Yodsaenklai) from Thailand to prepare for this event. I took awhile to settle down because I was a bit cautious at the beginning of the bout,” said Sharizal.

In the curtain raiser for the International Muay Thai Superfights, the match up between Zidov “Akuma” Dominik of Switzerland and Abbas Ahmadi from Iran went the full distance.

Abbas, who entertained the crowd with his rotational swing, prevailed at the end of the fifth and final round.

However, South African part-time model Olivia Jackson had a punishing time when Tiana “Tiger” Caverley of Australia stamped her dominance to clinch the WMC women’s inter-continental title bout.

In addition, two other battles were also decided by technical knockout.

Brazillian Leornardo Monteiro needed only two rounds to force Kim Khan Zaki (“Zig Zag”) to retire and take the WMC Against Drugs title.

Meanwhile, the referee decided to stop the contest for the WMC International Challenge when Thailand's Sirichai (“Singha Siri”) bled profusely in the fifth and final round of an intense match-up against Sean Wright of Scotland.

kem Boxx dah confident abbas boleh menang (ko pula tu) .. tapi dia menang point yang banyak, Hasyim depa dah risau bila lawan ngan Khoo, sebab nak KO dia ni memang susah. So kira puas hati juga lah.
Tengku Sharizal memang layak menang. Tahniah untuk semua boxer Malaysia.Tapi macam di kata, standard kita jauh ketinggalan.

Some people think if they train under great fighter they can be one too. If I'm a fighter, I'll train under the trainer that train the great fighter!! Best still, go for the trainer that train the trainer of the fighter... to be even better, train under ..blah,blah,blah.
BoxxTomoi, you are on the dot when you say "it's is not where you train, it's how you train" Zidov down,Zack down who's next Tomoi!!

Can I be Boxx's foot soldier? Must fill in form meh?

BoxxTomoi said...

Mamat, go and train with YoshiHERO Sato.
Foot soldier? Actually we got an army of it in Kulim. This Volunteers I got to salute them. I don't know how much token they received but just like them, me and them want to associate ourselves with Boxx. We don't actually have the chance to watch the fight as we are actually working.
Just pay RM15 or RM20 and enjoy the fight!! But if you wanna be in the army, just look for me, Zahari or Sanusi (I think he's the Capt. or General by now!!)

Dear Boxx,
I think most girls and yuppies think Contender Asia boxers are the best around. But if you are really a "kaki" Tomoi/Muay Thai you know who's the best around. It like saying Mawi the best malaysia singer.
I think only 3or 4 boxers in CA actually can fight, the rest are just supporting actors.
CA is only a reality show dude.So people get real.
I come across this blog from your YouTube, and I think you people are introducing the real boxer to Malaysian public.I'll be there at BJ but I wish I'm working around Kulim!!
Terima Kasih, good luck and cheers!

Mr.T(tomoi), greeting.I agree with kakitomoi about th CA boxers.Well I was once a Muay Thai boxer (very long time ago),and just to add bit of my knowledge:
every boxer beside having a good trainer must have a very good manager.
In Thailand where almost everybody is associate with MT you felt sorry for some of the boxers.Good fighter, big name but they always victim of their own manager greed. There is too much deduction till at one point the manager got more than the fighter.
Abbas is lucky to be with Mr.Zahari and in Malaysia. If he is still in Thailand he will only be one of the boxer, but in Malaysia He is the Boxer! If I'm 15 yrs younger I'll I think I want to base in Malaysia (kulim).
Good blog, good job to all of you at Boxx.

Folk thank you for the comments.

Everybody have a role to play, the boxers, manager, foot soldier, trainer, the fan,the critics ,the sponsors and the media. Everybody is equally important to raise the standard of Muay Thai (esp. in Malaysia). CA have help to create awareness to the public, which make our job much easier.
We have not cross the comfort zone yet.So people (esp.malaysian) we really need your support.
The BJ showcase is just the appertizer ... you ain't see nothing yet... till you see the Alor Setar fight ( 3rd week august 2008)

Budakulim, I'm nobody without Boxx!!
Thank you.

TM - WMC WORLD MUAY THAI CHALLENGE DIRECTORY

THANK YOU

Finally, TM WMC WORLD MUAY THAI CHALLENGE – THE ROYAL CUP OF KEDAH was successfully held after going through so much hassle. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Tuanku Sultan of Kedah, the office of HRH Tuanku Sultan, the State Government of Kedah, and of course TM, as the main sponsor, Tunku Arif Shazuddin from Seri Libana Sdn Bhd, as the co-sponsor, other sponsors, boxers and my highest appreciation to all muay thai fans and the crew of BOXX EVENT.
This event had to endure a lot of obstacles and pain, from 8 men, I decided to change to 4 men and again to superfights only. This scenario should be able to tell how much problem we had to face but Alhamdulillah, with support from all of you out there, we still managed to pull through.
In my opinion, the recent muay thai event sponsored by TM is now at the same level with Le Tour De Langkawi, Monsoon Cup etc….the reason why I am saying this is because it is not easy for TM to become a main sponsor, I have been trying to secure sponsorship from TM for more than a year. They will only sponsor a good event and thank god again they agreed to sponsor a MUAY THAI event….that means this event is GOOD . I just couldn’t believe it at first, when other corporate companies shut their door to muay thai, the number one and the biggest telco company in Malaysia which is Telekom Malaysia Berhad agreed to sponsor. I hope this will trigger attention from other corporate companies for future events.
The event which was attended by the Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, Dato’ Seri Tunku Sallehuddin Ibni Sultan Badlishah was also attended by the new Chief Minister, State Excos, departmental head and of course from TM, Dato’ Adnan Rofiee beside the state GM Puan Pauziah Taib and other TM senior officials. If some people out there think Muay Thai is a violent sports and only suitable for the villagers, I think they really have to take back their words. The presence of the royal family members and state leadership should ring a bell. We have proven, muay thai followers and supporters come from all level of people.
There will be more exciting shows which I will bring out from the store for all of u, I should have not less than 2 events for local boxers, 2 events for world title fight and 4 international and world class event through out 2008. This time, the venue would be in Kedah, KL, Jakarta and Brunei. I m also trying to organize one in JB (yeoh, pls help me out in organizing one in jb ok).
Well, it is now almost 1 am…4/4/08, I m feeling a bit sleepy. I need to sleep early and get back to my normal life. I hereby would like to take this opportunity to thank all of u, including of Khairul from UM, who travel all the way from KL, TM of course, Rudy .. also from TM, some muay thai fans…who travel all the way from Johore, Singapore, Thailand, KL, Penang, Perak, Terengganu and Kelantan (thank you so much), visitors of this blog, the boxers and of course the crew members who struggled in order to ensure the success of this event. Thank you again.
MUAY THAI UNITE

THE BEST MUAY-THAI EVENT IN MALAYSIA

MUAY THAI DILEMMA IN MALAYSIA

People in Malaysia think Muay Thai is violent and create violent society. People in Malaysia think Muay Thai should not be practiced in Malaysia because they come from Thailand (I wonder where does golf come from but it is played here). Sponsors think Muay Thai fans have no buying power because this sport is only watched by the villagers. Sponsors think Muay Thai fans only available in Thailand. Sponsors think Muay Thai only attract “low class” people … but one thing for sure, whoever thinks that way, obviously they have never been to a Muay Thai tournament, they judge Muay Thai only from one angle and that is from NEGATIVE angle point of view. This year, I had the opportunity to go to three events. The first one was a national level martial art competition held in Kulim. They rented a BIG hall as the venue. And guess what, the number of spectators were around 200 people….and one thing I must tell you, the entrance is free (obviously because the participants are amature, so the organizer don’t have to pay any cash prize money and also…THEY HAVE BIG SPONSORSHIP).The second one was another finale of another martial competition, despite big budget allocated and presence of the minister … the number of contestant outnumbered the audience. The third one was only last weekend. It was a promotion held in Kulim by a GIANT telco company. When I arrived at the venue, they had about 5 small canopies and 1 BIG canopy with a estimated number of 50 staffs. The best thing was, only four people or I would rather say four potential customers at the venue and one of them was me.I asked one of the staffs, “How much do u spend for this promotion event?” and he replied around 5 – 6 thousand Malaysia Ringgit. And I said to him that I can guarantee a minimum number of 1,000 people will come and visit their promotion with that amount of budget. He smiled and asked me how am I going to do that. Well, I said to him its simple….”I just bring in my boxing ring and provide local pro Muay Thai fighters to fight at your promotion venue and its free for public to watch, I can guarantee you, you will need the traffic police to control the traffic flows”. To my surprised, he commented that they might not get the right crowd for their products and services. I asked him again, have u ever watched a Muay Thai fight in Malaysia? He just kept quiet….and again I felt a bit disappointed with the way people judge Muay Thai in Malaysia. Majority don’t realize that Muay Thai fights in Malaysia attract all level of people…just name the kind of people and they are there. School childrens, university students, teachers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, expatriates, c.e.o.s….just name it. But of course, in order for you to have this large number of crowd, proper marketing and promoting plan must be implemented. And why do Muay Thai fights attract people? Simple because they are real and the fight is full of spectacular action.Daniel Mashamaite, a boxer from South Africa fought four times in Malaysia. During his last fight in Malaysia he said I surely have big sponsorship in my pocket because I organize a lot of tournaments in a year and there are always big crowd watching. He was surprised when I said that for Kedah International Muay Thai Championship the sponsorship amount that I managed to get after begging was not more than 30,000 Malaysia Ringgit when I have more than 4,000 paid crowd and 1,000 free passes (the audience paid 13 ringgit ticket…you don’t have to calculate how much we made, because how much do u think is the cost to organize an international event? ). Just imagine how many people can I attract if the entrance is FREE…but if I were to do that, who is going to pay for the cost of organizing?Sponsors will surely get maximum mileage if they sponsor Muay Thai event, that I can guarantee. Sponsor will not only get return in terms of branding mileage, they can even generate cash sales in return by sponsoring Muay Thai event, that I can also guarantee 100 % (but sorry guys, cant tell you the method…well, I can tell you how but I am afraid I have to kill you after that ) . The problem is, most of the decision maker, turn down our proposal just because he or she doesn’t like Muay Thai (or maybe our proposal is not convincing….hmmm…I will improve on that).A conversation I had with an officer of a State Government owned company….she said they are unable to sponsor Muay Thai event because Muay Thai is not related to their company but she also said “but we can sponsor GOLF” … huh ??? is golf related to a state government company when the company’s activity circling around the development of the state? Well, I guess they sponsor golf because their bosses play golf .. poor you Muay Thai.BOXX is going to operate a Muay Thai centre soon. We are targeting school children to participate and we plan to charge them between 2 – 5 malaysia ringgit a month (in order to cover the operational cost … don’t laugh, ok). I am expecting the majority of the school children who turn up will be the kind of “aggressive children”. The non aggressive might choose piano class instead (maybe these aggressive boys” will go to piano class too…will they?). When these aggressive children turn up for training at .. let say 5 pm .. they will not straight away start punching and kicking. We are gong to organize a 15 minutes informal classes on anti smoking, anti drug, anti crime and all those positive classes. The speakers will come from various related government agencies ( I hope they support this effort). The speakers will sit among these boys and tell them stories about the bad thing about smoking, drug etc… (they will run away if we conduct the class in a formal way, that’s for sure because I would run away too). We might even get an ex drug addict to relate his experience to there boys. These classes will be conducted from time to time. My prediction is, after few years, these boys will still be “aggressive boys” because the aggressiveness is already in them but they will be equipped with knowledge. We hope to instill positive values in these boys through Muay Thai training and all those classes. What I am trying to say is…. YOU CAN USE MUAY THAI AS A TOOL TO CREATE A GOOD CITIZEN…GOOD PEOPLE. Only if you are not negative towards it (because I don’t think the boys will attend just an anti smoking or anti drug classes). No matter what, no matter how big the obstacle is, we … at BOXX EVENT will never surrender. We, with the support from all of you with continue with our struggle to position Muay Thai to where it should be …Last but not least, I would like to thank everybody who has been supporting Muay Thai activities in Malaysia and please continue visiting this blog because it is also a prove that Muay Thai has big fans all around the world.Regards,ZAHARI AHMAD RAZALI
